"My introduction to EDAS came in July 2019 when I was at my absolute rock bottom. I had left my children to ensure that they were not taken into care, my home in Cambridge and found myself at the age of 40 living back with my parents.
I had no confidence in myself or life in general, my self-esteem was on the floor and I hated myself.
Fast forward to today. I still have a way to go, but I now have the self-belief and confidence to know I can and will do it. I am completely happy in my own skin, I'm learning who the real me is. I'm not going to love everything about myself, but I do know that I can accept that.
In the previous 16 months I have attended support groups (Emotional Management, Anxiety Management, Relapse Prevention and Women's group to name a few), had the support of keyworkers and counsellors, been introduced to AA, completed 2 FITDAS courses, I am volunteering in their amazing cafe and I am completing the CATS course in the hope that I can give something back to this amazing community of people I have come to love.
Most importantly, I have learnt how to laugh again, I have met some of the BEST people in my life and I have hope for my future with my children.
I would also like to add that on top of the love and care I have been shown EDAS have loved, cared and supported my parents. They see more than the alcoholic/addict and understand that it is a family disease and for this also I will forever be grateful.
To sum up, and in case it isn't obvious from what I have written, EDAS have literally saved me and given me my life back.
