On Wednesday 24th April, EDAS were in attendance to witness the award of the Keith Fletcher Award for ‘Outstanding Commitment to Study’ to our 2018 Access to Higher Education Diploma in Substance Misuse graduate Kirsteen Turner-Jones. Held in the Jubilee Room of Westminster Hall the ceremony awards nominated Access students on their Outstanding Academic Achievement and Outstanding Commitment to Study. After the prizes had been awarded winners, runners up and their guests were treated to a tour of the Houses of Parliament and had the opportunity to have access to the public gallery to watch the debates in the House of Commons in the afternoon.
The Keith Fletcher Award
Keith Fletcher worked for many years in the South West of England within its successive Access Validating Agencies (AVAs) and was a great supporter of Access to Higher Education. In memory of Keith’s commitment to Access, a number of AVAs agreed to award prizes for Access students drawn from across the regions for 2010-11 and after a successful presentation event in London; it was decided to develop this as an annual presentation. The prize is now supported by all 13 AVAs across England and Wales.
